The Choir Walk and Sing Team have the following summer walking dates
Macmillan Blenheim 19/7/25 | Myton Snowdon | Alzheimers 10/5/25 Stonehenge
Our local base is adjacent to Warwick Racecourse so its possible to combine our two passions of singing and walking in nature with an undemanding and convenient walk in company.
Over the year we aim to sing the repertoire on saturdays with gifted conductors and musicians and soloists in Come and Sing Days nationally. This gives ample scope for sunday walks around town or on the fells. If rising at 4.30am to go to the mountains is not your thing then a church visit to the 10.30 communion or 7.30 evensong works well.
Then you are buzzing and supercharged for the rigours of the working or caring week!
Gear note
If you are new to walking I have some recommended gear and thoughts. A polyester fleece base layer with long sleeves and thumb loops is a good idea rather than cotton. These go on offer in your size and my recommendation (£7.99) is here.
Generally a first gear trip to Decathlon is a good idea. They have great gear at sensible prices. Shoes we’ll only be briskly walking for 15-30 minutes to and hour so a sensible pair of boots or trainers is a good idea. Socks I dont stint on and use Danish Endurance or Moggans.
Personally I walk day to day in Sketchers wide fitting work boots which are smart enough for the office. A light windjacket or rainlayer is inexpensive. These too go on offer. Personally I use a full zip fleece in winter which works well as a windlayer. In summer just a light windjacket. Best thing is to get out there on a consistent daily basis if only for 15 minutes brisk walking and see what works for you.
One tip dont waste money on backpacks. Buy your summer daybag pack for the waterproofs last and dont spend much. A running vest makes a good starting point.
The Mountains and fells are a differant story and DofE gear can (and generally should be!) robust and expensive.
