Like all muscles the vocal muscles need regular exercise.

We do this

with Hymns

belonging to concert choirs in their rehearsals and performances,

our own performances

and our regular sectional rehearsals on Fridays at 8.15 at Hill Close Gardens Warwick

This magic doesnt just happen! We work hard as a chorus for our soloists, the orchestra, the conductor, our donors and of course our loyal audience. Thankyou for braving storm Bert to hear us on 6th December in such numbers!

If you are a bit rusty in your part you can catch up here

Music theory. A little music theory goes a long way in improving your individual and the chorus musicality! Do watch the excellent pianote guides

Peter’s Landmark notes. Everyone starts by singing by an experienced singer learning by ear.

As you become more experienced in the chorus you will get to have your own landmark notes from the start of your favourite pieces. Personally I navigate by F (Hallelujah) and B (Kyrie). Other favourite “Kyries” can give you landmark notes to keep you in tune.

For the black keys I use the Judy Garland song chorus. “I got rhythm I got music”. Try it and see. Music is often conducted in “four”. I start by singing in pianissimo in 4 and just sounding the numbers (1,2,T,4) then the next bar.

Imagining you playing the notes on an instrument is a great way of humming the notes and learning tricky sections. Such as can be found with Choraline or Johnf. The idea is to be responsive to the conductor, score and piano but also to be as independent as possible to the point you can “read” (even memorise!) the score and just sing a capella. Then your enjoyment and contribution to the chorus sound will quickly improve and so the collective memory of the chorus improves.

Then you can move onto piano and chords.

Check out my chorus “read through” videos to help you hear the tenor line.
